Golfing with Kids - Advice and Tips
Golfing with your kids can be a relaxing day of puttering around the back nine at your local course, or it can be an exercise in frustration and an overall horror show. The thing that separates these two is patience, both on your part and on the part of your kids, and it is important to figure out some ways to take some of the crankiness out of learning to play. Golf is a notoriously difficult game, and many kids can give up early when things aren't going their way. In this article, we'll take a look at a few ways you can keep junior golf fun and educational.
One of the major tenets of any game, but especially so in junior golf, is to practice. To play golf well demands a high level of commitment to practice, and so taking your kids to the driving range a few times so they can get used to hitting the ball is a good way to get them acclimated. Putting is another important part of the game, and one that can be extremely frustrating as well. Again, appropriate practice on a putting game (or even a few rounds of mini golf) can really help them keep their cool on an actually golf course.
Junior golf doesn't have to be a painful experience, and keeping the right mindset about it can make it run pretty smoothly. Depending on how willing your kids are to try new things, you should be able to get them interested in the game enough to see if they enjoy it or not. An important thing is not to push golf on kids – they can have a hard time connecting with it, and if it's pushed they'll never enjoy it.
