Forgan Golf Clubs, Bags & Shoes
Forgan Golf is a golf supplier based in the UK. Forgan has a long and storied history as the oldest golf club factory in the world, dating back to 1819. Robert Forgan took over the company in the middle of the 1850's. He began the famous process of drying hickory for twelve months by the side of the 17th fairway at St. Andrews, before rounding them off and offering them for sale.
The black sheds used for this process have since been recreated and serve as an obstacle on the famous Road Hole at St. Andrews. Forgan has long been known for its custom golf clubs. In 1864 a custom set of golf clubs was made for King Edward, the Prince of Whales at the time. He was so pleased with his set he officially recognized Forgan Golf in 1904. World War 2 was a difficult time for the company who couldn't compete in an international market flooded with American clubs.
Forgan was eventually bought out by Spalding and production resumed in 1945 but finally shut down in the 1960's. The brand was re-ignited in 2008 and features an online custom-built ordering process. Forgan boasts that this is the first online customizition program provided by an established golf club manufacturer.
Customers provide the following information: their gender, height, dexterity, glove size, swing speed, and the distance from their wrists to the floor. The company then uses complex calculations to determine shaft flex, length and lie specs. Forgan refuses to adjust loft as they feel that golfers should simply purchase a club with a loft they are already comfortable with, making customization unnecessary.
They also don't believe in factoring in handicaps for customization. After supplying their information, customers can choose from a wide variety of clubs and products. Forgan offers every type of club you could dream of, from drivers to hybrids to putters. They also supply golf bags, balls and a wide variety of accessories. The company ships internationally so anybody in the world can purchase custom made Forgan Golf clubs.
